German sensation Max Meyer has revealed Tottenham tried to sign him this summer.
The 21-year-old Schalke winger has long been linked with a move to the Premier League following his exploits in the Bundesliga.
Spurs were linked with a late August swoop for Meyer and the player has revealed that Mauricio Pochettino’s side showed strong interest in prising him from Gelsenkirchen.
“I know that there was interest and the club was asked, but Schalke immediately put a stop to it. So the matter was settled,” he told Sport Bild, as quoted by the Mirror.
“Of course I’ve dealt with it. I know what I have at Schalke and I like to play for this club.”
Meyer has already been capped three times by Germany after making waves in the Bundesliga with some electrifying performances on the flank for Schalke.
He has scored one goal and provided three assists in 14 club matches this season. In total, Meyer has scored 20 goals and supplied 21 assists in 120 Schalke appearances.
Mayer is tied down to the Bundesliga club until 2018 and is in no rush to get back to the negotiation table just yet.
“When the time comes, we’ll come to a decision. But I feel good about Schalke,” he added, as quoted by the Mirror.
