Connor Gallagher: Tottenham plan to hijack deal

Tottenham are planning to hijack Atletico Madrid’s deal for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, sources have told Football Insider.

Atletico Madrid are in advanced talks to sign the 24-year-old as Chelsea try to secure a £40million+ fee for their home-grown talent.

Spurs have been chasing Gallagher since January and are still in pursuit as they seek to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

The north London club face further completion from fellow Premier League side Aston Villa, who also remain interested in the England international.

Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are yet to agree on a fee for the midfielder with their latest offer so far being £30 million.

Football Insider revealed (July 29) that the Spanish club remain confident in signing Gallagher despite continued interest from the two Premier League clubs.

Gallagher has been ever present for Chelsea since his return from Crystal Palace on loan in 2022 making 95 appearances and scoring 10 goals for the club.

Under Mauricio Pochettino last season Gallagher was pushed higher up the pitch and due to his relentless pressing was one of Chelsea’s stand-out performers in a rollercoaster season.

The midfielder has been at Chelsea since the age of eight having come through the club’s prestigious academy to being named captain on several occasions in Reece James’ absence last season.

Spurs are yet to really get going in the transfer window this summer having yet to sign anyone over the age of 18.
