Connor Goldson may have rejected £60,000-a-week Rangers offer – pundit

Connor Goldson may have rejected a £60,000-a-week contract offer to stay at Rangers, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested a lot of Rangers players would quit Ibrox if they had the chance to earn that much money elsewhere.

The Gers confirmed on Wednesday (1 June) that Goldson, 29, had signed a new four-year deal with the club.

His previous deal expired at the end of May and he look set to quit the club after a four-year spell.

The Sun reported on Monday (30 May) that Nottingham Forest were ready to step up their attempts to sign the Englishman.

Asked why Goldson would consider quitting Rangers, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He would for the money.

“At his age, he would have thought ‘I want one more contract where I can get £40,000-a-week, £50,000-a-week, £60,000-a-week’.

“Rangers have got a set amount they can pay and maybe someone like Nottingham Forest or a team that has just gone up to the Premier League would be able to offer him that.

“The European nights are amazing and Rangers are a great club but it’s a short career and you’ve got to make money to last you for the rest of your life.

“A lot of players would trade it for more money somewhere else. It’s just the way of life.”

Goldson has played 222 times across all competitions for the Ibrox giants, scoring 20 goals and chipping in with nine assists.

He was a key part of the side that conceded just 13 goals as they won the 2020-21 Scottish Premiership and reached the final of the 2021-22 Europa League.
