Conor Gallagher: Big update on Chelsea star and January move – Sources
Conor Gallagher is expected to stay at Chelsea past the January transfer window despite ongoing uncertainty over his contract situation, sources have told Football Insider.
Gallagher, 23, is out of contract in June 2025 and manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed an extension is the “club’s decision”.
He said the midfielder “is the type of player that the club needs to have as he knows the identity of the club”.
The England international was told he could leave Stamford Bridge in the summer window amid interest from Tottenham and West Ham, but wanted to stay and fight for his place.
Gallagher has regularly captained Chelsea so far in the 2023-24 campaign amid injury struggles for appointed skipper Reece James.
It is believed talks are ongoing between the player and club over a new deal, with the 23-year-old signing his last contract extension in 2020.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Pochettino wants to keep Gallagher at Stamford Bridge – but he is a player Chelsea could bank a huge profit on due to his home-grown status.
The Blues will need to sell stars to make further signings after their mammoth transfer spending in recent seasons.
Gallagher has made 19 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2023-24 campaign, notching four assists.

He has made 64 appearances in total for Chelsea after coming through the ranks at the London club.
The ex-Crystal Palace loanee is a regular feature in Gareth Southgate’s England squads ahead of the European Championships next year.
