Conor Gallagher to Man United latest as ‘favoured situation’ revealed

Conor Gallagher could be the subject of multiple bids in the January transfer window amid interest from Man United.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who states that Gallagher is still ‘very happy‘ at Atletico Madrid.

Man United could sign Gallagher for £26million in January, with the 25-year-old having previously played for Chelsea in the Premier League.

Gallagher wants to reignite his England prospects with a move back to the Premier League, with the midfielder not a guaranteed starter at Atletico Madrid.

Adam Wharton ‘favoured’ over Conor Gallagher

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – states that Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton is still Man United‘s number one target.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insists that Man United will have to pay more than £26m for Gallagher.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, I don’t know where that number has come from, because I think there’d be a bit of an auction for Conor, and I think you’re going to need to pay more than that if you were to get him.

I think he’s still very happy in Madrid. He’s not getting the game time he wants, but he is enjoying being around the club and the whole thing. And they’ve had a reasonable run until last weekend, and they’re still lying fourth in the table, but still, it’s very close at the top of the table.

If he was to come back there has been a lot of talk about United, but I think Wharton is going to be their favoured situation.”

Man United would have to pay huge Wharton price tag

Crystal Palace will demand £100m for Wharton, with the 21-year-old also on the radar of Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Wharton joined Crystal Palace from Blackburn last year for £18m, and has quickly established himself as a key player in Oliver Glasner’s team.

The England international has started 13 of Crystal Palace’s 15 Premier League games this season, with the Eagles currently in the top four.
