European giants Paris Saint-Germain have contacted the representatives of Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho, according to a report.

Spanish publication Sport claims that PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi alongside sporting directors Antero Henrique and Maxwell have already been in touch with the 25-year-old’s agent as they attempt to entice the player to France instead of a move to La Liga side Barcelona.

The newspaper reports that the Catalan club have placed the Brazilian at the top of their list of transfer targets for the January window.

The report claims that the Ligue 1 outfit tried to sign the Liverpool ace during the summer but he was determined to complete a deal to the Camp Nou.

PSG are reportedly doing everything within their power to stop Coutinho’s move to Spain at the turn of the year in order to make a move for him in the next summer transfer window.

The French club are becoming a massive power in European football and they currently top their Champions League group,  having already beaten top-flight champions Bayern Munich and Celtic in the competition this season.

Coutinho has already contributed with three goals and one assist for the Merseyside club this season.

The Brazilian’s contract at Anfield runs out in 2022.

Football Insider verdict

It appears that the Reds will face another tough task to keep Coutinho at the club but this time in January. Barcelona have certainly not given up in landing the Brazilian but it would be a strange decision to try and sign him at the turn of the year as he will be ineligible to compete in the Champions League after already making an appearance for Liverpool. PSG have already shown that they can attract some of the best players in world football but it seems that Coutinho has his heart set on playing at the Camp Nou and they’ll need to table an incredible offer to both the player and Liverpool for things to change.

In other Liverpool news, Rickie Lambert has claimed he fell out of love with football at Anfield.
