Contact made: West Ham make shock move for £60m-rated La Liga striker - reports
By Matt Farr
West Ham have made a shock move for Real Madrid goalscorer Alvaro Morata, according to a report.
Spanish news outlet Don Balon claim West Ham have made contact with the La Liga giants over a possible deal for the striker this summer, as their desperate search for a new goalscorer continues.
However, it is further reported that Morata would find it difficult to see a move to the east London club as a positive step in his career, with a deal between the two clubs looking unlikely.
It’s a shock move by West Ham, even for their most diehard fans, with the striker seen as one of the best in Europe and one who’s attracting interest from top clubs.
The 24-year-old striker has found regular first-team opportunities limited at Real Madrid this season, and has been tipped to quit the club this summer.

Morata has scored 16 goals from 35 appearances in all competitions this season, but has made only 10 La Liga starts.
Premier League giants Chelsea, as well as Italian leaders Juventus, are also believed to hold a strong interest in signing the Spain international, with the player valued as high as £60million.
The Hammers have suffered this season from the absence of a prolific goalscorer, and sit just five points clear of the relegation zone with seven matches remaining.
Michail Antonio remains the club’s top goalscorer this season with nine strikes, while Andy Carroll is the only outright striker at the club to have scored more than one goal.
Football Insider verdict
You cannot fault West Ham for their ambition, but a move for Morata this summer is out of their league. The only plausible deal would be a loan move, but the Spaniard would even be reluctant to consider a temporary switch to the club when there are much bigger possibilities that could be available. West Ham find themselves in a relegation scrap, and Morata is too good a player to be dragged into that next season. He could easily be a key player for a top-end Premier League side, like Chelsea, and moving to West Ham would be as Morata fears, a step in the wrong direction.
In other West Ham transfer news, the club have reportedly reached an agreement to sign this Premier League club ace this summer.
