Contact made: Wolves makes multiple moves to sign new players

By Matt Farr

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Paul Lambert has revealed the club have already begun assembling new recruits ahead of the summer.

The Midlands club finished in a lowly 15th place in the Championship this season, and Lambert is keen to add a number of quality reinforcements to his squad ahead of next season.

But Lambert has confirmed that he has already watched and spoken to a number of players over potential moves to the club this summer, and has been in talks with sporting director Kevin Thelwell over his summer plans.

He also declared his intention to trim the Wolves squad, with no fewer than 39 players currently on the books at Molineux, including those out on loan.

He told the Express and Star: “We’ve spoken to some lads and watched a few abroad. We’ll see how it’s going to transpire.

“I’ve spoken with Kevin to see where we are as a club moving forward and I’ve spoken to a few players and seen a few games. Things are moving on that front.

“We’ll have meetings to see, because the squad’s too big and needs to be trimmed as well, players out on loan, you can’t have that amount of players again.

“Things are really moving, on and off the pitch. Obviously I’m being part of that, of trying to get players in that I think can do it [to earn promotion].”

However, much like a number of his players, Lambert also faces an uncertain future at the club.

The Scottish manager is concerned that the club’s Chinese owners, Fosun, are prepared to hand super-agent Jorge Mendes full control of the club’s transfer dealings.

It was reported by the Telegraph last week that Lambert was considering walking away from his post due to his ongoing frustrations on the transfer front, although it is also said that Fosun are prepared to give him the chop.

But regardless of his own future, Lambert appears to be pushing forward with his summer transfer plans, which will be a pleasing sign for Wolves fans.

In other Wolves transfer news, the club are considering a swoop for this potential managerial alternative.
