Attacking midfielder omitted: This Chelsea starting XI will smash Manchester City

By Emma Sanders

Chelsea should not make any changes to their starting XI ahead of the crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City on Saturday.

Antonio Conte’s side travel to the Etihad for one of the biggest games of the season as the league leaders take on one of their main rivals.

Manchester City are just one point off Chelsea who are currently top of the league table but Conte’s side have been in sensational form so should stick with the team that has swept all comers apart in recent months. It is capable of smashing City in Saturday’s mouthwatering clash.

The 3-4-3 formation has worked brilliantly for Chelsea so they should retain a back three consisting of Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta when they go in search of their eighth straight victory.

Thibaut Courtois is the obvious choice for the number one spot and the defence are best protected when N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic take up their familiar roles as holding midfielders.

Eden Hazard and Diego Costa have been Chelsea’s star players once again this season and they should undoubtedly start in attack, with Costa leading the line through the centre.

Hazard should play in the wide role, with Pedro retaining his place on the opposite wing. This would mean that attacking midfielder Willian, who won the club’s player of the year award last season, will once again be omitted.

Victor Moses has now scored two goals in his last six league games and has been in great form so should also retain his place in the starting XI.

Macros Alonso completes the team.

In other Chelsea news, this is why they cannot write off Manchester City as title contenders.
