Conte will be furious Tottenham 'used' by Adama Traore in talks after £22.75m reveal - pundit

Antonio Conte will be furious at Tottenham being “used” by Adama Traore in transfer talks during the January window, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Lilywhites let the 26-year-old “slip through their fingers” after negotiating a deal with Wolves.

As revealed by Football Insider (21 January), Spurs agreed terms worth £22.75million to sign Traore from Wolves.

A Spurs source told this site the club were putting the finishing touches and preparing for the winger to undergo a medical before a late twist saw Traore return to Barcelona on loan instead.

Hutton insisted Conte would be fuming at missing out on signing the Wolves star.

He suggested Traore may have used Spurs to earn himself a move elsewhere.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Conte evaluated the squad and identified the positions that needed strengthening. Did they do that?

“I think their number one picks they let slip through their fingers. Adama Traore used the Tottenham link to get a better move.

“So I think Conte will be annoyed. He probably wanted to make his own stamp on this team and he’s not been able to.

“The defensive side of it, the wing-backs. I think that is where he wanted to strengthen. He really needed new faces.

“I don’t think he’ll be overly happy with the business they’ve done.”

Totttenham signed just two players – Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski – before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Both arrived from Juventus, the former on a permanent deal and the latter on loan.
