‘Corruption’, ‘Disgrace’ – Rangers fans fume at latest Jose Cifuentes footage after 3-1 win over Dundee

Rangers fans on social media were not happy with VAR after Jose Cifuentes was shown a red card during their 3-1 win over Dundee on Saturday afternoon.

The Glasgow giants continue to apply pressure to arch-rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with the gap between both clubs now just five points.

However, Philippe Clement’s side were forced to come from behind against Dundee at Ibrox after the visitors took an early lead through Amadou Bakayoko.

Rangers responded well with goals from Cyriel Dessers, James Tavernier and Abdallah Sima in the first half, but they were dealt a blow when referee Kevin Clancy showed Cifuentes for a mistimed tackle.

The 24-year-old midfielder was initially handed a yellow card before VAR intervened and recommended Klancy to dismiss the Ecuador international.

Cifuentes is now set to miss the upcoming Scottish League Cup final against Aberdeen next Sunday (17 December).

Rangers fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, believe Cifuentes’ red card was undeserved.

Some Rangers fans immediately urged their club to appeal the decision, potentially allowing Cifuentes to take part in next week’s final if it is successful.

The complaints continued, with this fan calling the decision a ‘disgrace’ while adding that the referee also made a mistake on Todd Cantwell’s goal earlier in the match.

One Rangers fan called it ‘corruption’ against Rangers while calling for the club’s board to call out ‘cheating’.
