Football Insider gazes into a crystal ball and predicts the Wolves team for the opening campaign of the 2017/18 season.
It is highly likely that Paul Lambert’s side will be plying their trade in the Championship next season – 14 points off the play-offs, with 17 games left currently suggests that.
However, in order to turn the Midlands club into a promotion force next term, Lambert will want to make suitable additions to his squad in the summer and there could be four new signings.
Players who could possibly help Lambert with his plans and join the club are Alan Hutton and Bakary Sako while also making Andi Weimann’s and Richard Stearman’s loan moves permanent.
But, it means they may have to do it without their record signing Helder Costa, who could be sold to Premier League clubs in the summer.
Aston Villa right-back Hutton, who worked with Lambert during his time at the club, could be brought into the fold on a free transfer with his contract expiring in the summer.
The former Scotland international could add much-needed experience to the team and help push youngsters such as Conor Coady.
Additionally, fans favourite, Sako might make a return to Molineux given that he has played only 59 minutes of Premier League football this term with his current club Crystal Palace.
The explosive winger could start on the left and help bring more goals to Lambert’s team after scoring 15 goals during his last stint with the club.
Versatile player Weimann has started life brightly at Wolves and Lambert will be hoping to make his loan move permanent.
The Austrian could sit in behind striker Nouha Dicko, with January addition Ben Marshall providing the service on the left-wing.
They will be aided by the calm head of centre-back Stearman who could continue his solid partnership with Kortney Hause at the heart of the club’s defence.
