Coufal tipped to '100%' be axed from West Ham XI as footage emerges

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Ben Johnson to replace Vladimir Coufal in the West Ham starting XI against Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Johnson was “fantastic” against Villa as he scored his first Premier League goal.

The 21-year-old has started the Hammers’ last three Premier League games with Coufal recovering from an injury.

After a one-minute cameo against Villa, Coufal returned to the starting XI against Genk in the Europa League on Thursday night.

David Moyes made seven changes from the side that thrashed Aston Villa 4-1 in Belgium.

Asked whether Johnson will start against Liverpool, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.

“If he keeps playing like he did against Aston Villa, he’ll keep Coufal out of the side.

“He was fantastic, he had Leon Bailey in his pocket all game and then scored the goal.

“It shows his confidence to even take that shot on, as a young player you pass that you don’t even attempt the shot.

“David Moyes is the sort of manager who will want to keep faith in younger players like that. Coufal will have to wait to get back into the side.

“I think he’ll [Johnson] start against Liverpool, I think he’ll keep the faith in him.

“He [Moyes] trusted him against Leon Bailey who is a class, class winger so I’m sure he’ll trust him against Sadio Mane.”

Johnson has now featured in 32 games for West Ham across all competitions.

His current contract at the London Stadium expires at the end of the season.
