Could Liverpool possibly sack Arne Slot? Update after Brentford defeat

Liverpool have suffered a dismal run of form in recent weeks and are rapidly losing ground to Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title.

Arne Slot’s side fell to a 3-2 defeat against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, meaning they have now lost four consecutive Premier League games.

A loss against Crystal Palace started the run, before defeats to Chelsea, Man United and now Brentford have seen the Reds plummet down the league table.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 20 October that Liverpool are concerned about Slot as a result of their recent poor form.

Now, following the Brentford defeat, frustrations have begun to bubble once again with questions being asked of the reasons behind their recent collapse.

Arne Slot facing increasing pressure at Liverpool

Football Insider revealed on 24 October that Slot is “one defeat away from crisis” at Liverpool, with the pressure on his position set to ramp up after another loss.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the boss is not believed to be under any internal pressure at Anfield, but their recent run of poor form has raised concerns and doubts may now begin to creep in.

Following the midweek victory against Eintracht Frankfurt, the Reds had hoped to build and push on with their domestic form, but that has not been the case.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “It’s a big period coming up for Liverpool, as you said, it was a big win for them in the mid-week game against Frankfurt.

“Obviously, results dictate whoever the manager is. If you’re not performing and not getting results, it brings pressure.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, whether you’re Arne Slot, who won the Premier League with Liverpool last season, or anybody else.

“Liverpool went out and spent heavily in the summer to bolster their squad, and a lot of people were expecting Liverpool to run away with the title this season.

“They got off to a good start, but things have unravelled a bit in recent weeks.

“I think he’s got plenty of credit in the bank, Slot, and I don’t think there’ll be any internal pressure just yet.

“They were hoping they could built on the win at Frankfurt and go on a run in the Premier League.

“But as you said, it’s a big period, it was a tough game away to Brentford when they really couldn’t afford to drop too many more points in the Premier League.”

Slot has been slammed for his decision-making in recent weeks, with questions set to be asked again following the Brentford defeat as pressure ramps up.

Slot concerned about Liverpool stars as questions asked

Brown told Football Insider on 23 October that Slot is worried about his Liverpool stars, with “major concerns” about some of their performances in recent weeks.

The likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have seen major drop-offs from their usual high standards and that has been highlighted as a reason for their form.

Alongside a host of other key players, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz are also causing concerns for Liverpool after struggling to adjust to their big-money summer moves to Anfield.

Many critics have now turned towards Slot with their criticism, given the money spent to bolster his squad and the high expectations he has set.

Liverpool don’t look like the imperious team who won the Premier League last season, and will now face Crystal PalaceAston VillaReal Madrid and Man City inside three weeks.
