Coventry City star Ellis Simms has the last laugh after being mocked by fans for what he did against Wolves
Ellis Simms made fans on social media eat their words after they ripped into him for missing a sitter in Coventry City’s dramatic 3-2 FA Cup win over Wolves on Saturday.
Coventry City are going to Wembley after they booked their spot in the FA Cup semi-final with a last-gasp injury-time double at Molineux.
Simms – an Everton academy graduate – missed a huge chance in the first half to score the opening goal but he silenced his critics with a superb second-half performance.
He broke the deadlock with a scrappy goal just after half-time and then scored the crucial equaliser in injury time and assisted Haji Wright for the winner in the 100th minute.
The 23-year-old joined the Sky Blues last summer for an £8million transfer fee – he has scored 14 goals for Coventry across all competitions this season.
Fans slam ex-Everton striker Simms for ‘shocking’ moment in dramatic FA Cup win
Fans on social media were quick to mock the former Everton striker for his “shocking” close-range miss but it certainly didn’t affect the rest of his performance.
Coventry will discover their semi-final opponents during the FA Cup draw on Sunday afternoon (17 March).
The semi-finals are due to take place on the weekend of April 20.
