Coventry fans demand Frank Lampard sells ‘useless’ star who ‘cost’ them vs Preston: ‘He’s the villain’
Coventry City fans have been left seething in the aftermath of their 1-1 draw away at Preston on Tuesday night.
The Sky Blues are flying high at the top of the Championship table, but they have seen their lead at the top of the pile cut to just five points after consecutive winless games.
Coventry have received plenty of plaudits for their performances so far this season, but they will certainly be rueing the fact that they failed to notch another three points in midweek.
Frank Lampard’s side played against 10 men for over 50 minutes after Liam Lindsay’s red card, but they were unable to make their numerical advantage count, as Dan Jebbison equalised for the hosts after an Andrew Hughes own goal had put Coventry ahead.
It is a result that will undoubtedly have fans glancing nervously over their shoulders, and they have been quick to lay into the team on social media in the aftermath of their stalemate.

Coventry fans have seen enough of Haji Wright after display vs Preston
Coventry boss Lampard is on the radar of Premier League clubs, but he could yet lead his team there next term, as the Midlands outfit chase a promotion that would send them to the top-flight for the first time since 2000-01.
However, frustration has begun to set in at the CBS Arena in recent days, with the midweek draw at Deepdale coming in the wake of a 3-0 defeat away at Ipswich Town.
Fans have been quick to aim criticism at the squad as a result, and this time around, it is Haji Wright who has found himself in the firing line on social media.
The American led the line for Lampard’s men before he was taken off in the 79th minute, but he missed two big chances in a performance that left a lot to be desired.
That didn’t go unnoticed among the Sky Blues’ faithful, who quickly took to X to share their thoughts on the striker’s wastefulness in front of goal.
One supporter branded the 27-year-old as “useless,” while another added that he had “cost” them the game with his missed chances.
There were also calls for Wright to be sold by Coventry in January, with one fan suggesting that he is becoming the “villain” for them.
- @mrdjmasters: “On a scale of ‘one to Haji Wright,’ how infuriating was his performance tonight?”
- @RightJDH: “Wanted him gone since play-offs. People need to not be blinded by him scoring eight tap-ins, with the chances he’s missed he should be on 20.”
- @JabuSitole: “If Haji Wright had half a brain, he would be a prolific striker.”
Haji Wright ranks second in the Championship for alarming stat
Football Insider revealed at the start of November that Leeds United were lining up a move for Wright after he made an impressive start to the season, but his form has tailed off in recent weeks.
The frontman has eight league goals to his name so far in 2025-26, but hasn’t found the back of the net since the 5-0 victory away at Sheffield Wednesday on 4 October.
| Rank | Player | Big Chances Missed |
| 1 | George Hirst | 11 |
| 2 | Haji Wright | 10 |
| 3 | Josh Sargent | 10 |
| 4 | Tommy Conway | 10 |
| 5 | Kyogo Furuhashi | 10 |
The ex-Schalke man has had plenty of opportunities to add to his tally since then, and that is undoubtedly where his most alarming statistic lies at the moment.
Wright has spurned 10 big chances already this season, a tally that is high enough to rank him as an unwanted joint-second in the entire division.
Only Ipswich’s George Hirst has missed more clear-cut opportunities than Wright, while City’s top scorer Brandon Thomas-Asante has missed just six, in comparison.
Wright’s quality as a player is undeniable, but he is very much a form-based striker, and right now, he simply cannot seem to find his goalscoring boots for Lampard and Co.
