Coventry fans roast ‘pathetic’ player after ‘abysmal’ display in Norwich defeat

Coventry’s promotion hopes suffered a blow on Monday as Norwich City came back to beat Frank Lampard’s side 2-1.

It was yet another away day without a win for the West Midlands side, with the Sky Blues surrendering a 1-0 lead at half-time to lose 2-1.

Coventry have long been tipped to be promoted to the Premier League this season after a sensational start to the season.

However, after the recent loss, doubts have started to creep in from supporters about their chances of promotion, with multiple players continuing to underperform.

One of the worst offenders on Monday was Liam Kitching, with fans appalled by his display.

Coventry fans slam Liam Kitching for performance vs Norwich

While Norwich City have bounced back in recent weeks, the Sky Blues were still expected to overcome the relegation-threatened side.

Yet, individual errors ensured this was not possible, with Kitching making a terrible mistake that led to the hosts’ second goal, which proved to be the winner.

As a result, supporters were quick to take to X after the game to slam the defender’s performance in a match that could prove to be costly come the end of the season.

Many supporters also fear that Coventry will miss out on promotion if Lampard insists on sticking with Kitching at the back.

How bad was Kitching vs Norwich?

According to Fotmob on 26 January, Kitching had a terrible display against Norwich, which helped cause the defeat.

The defender only won on tackle, made one block and completed two interceptions.

On top of this, he made an error that led to a goal and completed just 79 per cent of his passes.

With Norwich City in the middle of a relegation battle, the hosts were always going to throw everything into the match to pull clear of the bottom three.

Therefore, it was a game where Coventry’s stars needed to be at their best, but unfortunately, Lampard was let down again.

The Sky Blues are now six away matches without a win, a run that will have to come to an end soon if Coventry want to return to the Premier League.

If not, the West Midlands side could truly be on their way to bottling promotion, a feat that would not have thought to be possible just a few weeks ago.
