Sources: Crawley Town agree to appoint Arsenal coach Kevin Betsy as manager

Arsenal coach Kevin Betsy has agreed a deal to become Crawley Town’s new manager, Football Insider understands.

The 44-year-old has told the Gunners he is quitting his role as Under-23s boss to take on the role at the League Two club.

An industry source has told Football Insider that Betsy has agreed terms with Crawley following a breakthrough in talks.

This site revealed last month (31 May) that the Gunners were braced for offers for Betsy, who is widely regarded as one of the most promising young coaches in the country.

He cut his teeth managing England at various age-group levels before he became manager of Arsenal’s development side in August last year.

His career trajectory is similar to that of Steve Cooper and new Watford boss Rob Edwards, who both also coached at England youth level.

Crawley have been without a manager since they sacked John Yems last month (7 May) amid extraordinary allegations of racism at the club.

Crawley finished 12th in League Two in 2021-22, with Lewis Young acting as caretaker manager since Yems’ exit.

The West Sussex side were taken over by cryptocurrency investment firm Wagmi United in April.

Betsy, who retired in 2015, was an EFL journeyman during his playing days.

The midfielder racked up over 600 appearances for clubs across the lower divisions of English football.

His Arsenal Under-23 side finished third in the Premier League 2 in 2021-22.

He also took the club’s Under-21s to the quarter-finals of the EFL Trophy.
