‘Crazy’ – Alan Shearer couldn’t believe what ‘schoolboy’ Liverpool did against Galatasaray

Liverpool lost 1-0 away at Galatasaray in the Champions League, following on from their 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

Arne Slot’s tactics were questioned against Galatasaray by BBC Sport’s Pat Nevin, as Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong both played out of position.

The Reds’ loss against Galatasaray was surprising, but the performance of the English champions was even more concerning.

Alan Shearer slams Liverpool for ‘crazy’ decisions

Speaking on Amazon Prime’s coverage of the match, co-commentator Alan Shearer blasted Liverpool for how they played in the first half.

Shearer said: “They work so hard to get the ball back and give it away so easily. Those 30 seconds there summed Liverpool up in the first 45 minutes. Giving the ball away again in another crazy situation.

“It’s a crazy position, Szobszlai is beaten too easily one vs one, then they get the ball back and give it straight back to Galatasaray and give a free kick away in a dangerous position,” he continued.

“How many times are Liverpool going to do it? They get the ball and give it straight back to them, you’ve got to take care of the ball, you can’t keep making silly mistakes or they’re going to get punished.”

Alan Shearer sees more of the same errors in the second half

Shearer’s disbelief continued in the second half with the ex-Newcastle United striker slamming Konate for an error in the lead-up to a Victor Osimhen chance

Shearer went on to say: “I just cannot believe these basic errors they are giving away, I mean that is schoolboy stuff.”

Liverpool had failed to win on their previous two visits to the Turkish giants, and the hostile atmosphere may have got the better of Slot’s side on this occasion too.

Whatever the reason for Liverpool’s poor showing, Slot will know his side need to vastly improve if they’re to avoid an unprecedented three losses in a row under the Dutchman’s leadership.
