Darren Bent was in disbelief over ex-Arsenal manager Unai Emery being a contender to be the next manager of Everton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa striker shared he found it crazy to see Emery even linked to the Toffees hot seat.
It was reported that Emery was approached about the Toffees manager job with an informal meeting held in London however it is believed he wants more time to think about his next move.
Emery was recently sacked by the Gunners after he took his side on a seven-game winless run, which was the club’s longest stint without a victory since February 1992.
Bent admitted he just couldn’t wrap his head around the idea of Emery potentially becoming the next Everton manager.
When asked about the managers in the running to be next Everton boss, Bent told Football Insider: “I read a crazy one as Unai Emery was linked.
“I couldn’t understand that one, I just couldn’t understand that at all.”
Football Insider revealed previously that Bordeaux manager Paulo Sousa is also on the Toffees’ radar after transforming the fortunes of the Ligue 1 side.
Duncan Ferguson is in temporary charge of the Toffees while the club search for a replacement for Marco Silva, with the interim boss getting his reign off to a winning start with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea on Saturday.
The Merseyside club currently sit 14th in the table having earned 17 points from their first 16 games of the season, and they are only two points clear of the relegation zone.
