Cristian Romero ‘causing issues’ at Tottenham after ‘disgraceful’ social media outburst

Cristian Romero has hit out at Tottenham via social media amid an ongoing injury crisis and following a quiet transfer window in North London.

Tottenham drew 2-2 with Man City at the weekend after coming from 2-0 down, but all was not content with Romero as he took to social media in the aftermath.

The centre-back wrote on his Instagram: “We only had 11 players available – unbelievable but true and disgraceful“, seemingly in a dig at the recruitment team or medical department.

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the captain aiming digs at the club behind the scenes cannot be good for morale behind the scenes.

Romero’s influence on some of the younger and more inexperienced players cannot be overlooked, and choosing to criticise the club publicly could become a problem.

Cristian Romero causing issues at Tottenham

Brown warned Football Insider last month that Tottenham are fearful of dressing room unrest amid growing frustrations both on and off the pitch.

These issues, alongside their disappointing form and growing frustration among Tottenham fans who are calling for Frank’s sacking, have led to a toxic atmosphere.

Romero coming out with digs at the club isn’t ideal for anybody,” Brown told Football Insider.

“If he’s complaining about a lack of recruitment and this sort of thing, I don’t think that stands up.

“When a club is going through a rocky patch, the last thing they need is the captain coming out saying negative things about them, because it’s causing issues.

“It gives some of the weaker characters in the squad an excuse to take digs, and it’s a bad influence on some of the younger and more inexperienced players too.

“Players like Romero need to put their hands up and take a bit of responsibility for this season.

“They’ve got a lot of major injuries there, it’s a problem and something they have to deal with, but it happens sometimes in football.

“For Romero immediately to come out looking to blame somebody, whether it’s the recruitment staff or the medical staff, it’s not on. They’re defenseless. I don’t like that.”

Tottenham could miss out on deal to sign Andy Robertson

In what proved to be a frustrating mid-season transfer window, Tottenham also missed out on a deal to sign Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson.

Tottenham made a move for Robertson in January in a bid to reinforce their back line, but ultimately missed out after the Reds pulled the plug.

Spurs are believed to have made another check on his situation on deadline day, but Liverpool are ruling out letting the 31-year-old leave this month.

Instead, Brown told Football Insider that Robertson will leave Liverpool on a free transfer, inspiring rival interest from a number of European clubs.

His availability on a free transfer means clubs are preparing to rival Tottenham’s pursuit and could get ahead of Frank‘s side in the race for his signature.
