Cristian Romero hails Tottenham teammate after Frankfurt clash: ‘What a player’

Cristian Romero has hailed one of his Tottenham teammates following their Europa League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Europa League is now Spurs’ only hope of silverware this season, and their only route into Europe for the 2025/26 campaign.

As a result, it seems likely that Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou will have his future determined in the Europa League this season.

His side went head to head with Frankfurt in the first leg of their quarter final tie in that competition in North London on Thursday night (10 April).

Man United and Newcastle target Hugo Ekitike put Frankfurt ahead after just six minutes, before Pedro Porro equalised for the hosts midway through the first half.

That was enough to ensure that both sides will head into the second leg in Germany next week with the tie level at 1-1.

It is understood that Romero could look for a move away from Tottenham in the summer transfer window amid interest from Real Madrid.

Even so, the Argentine once again started for Spurs against Frankfurt, partnering Micky van de Ven at centre-back in that match.

Van de Ven has endured numerous injury problems at Tottenham this season, and this match was the first time in 2025 that he has completed a full game.

Now it appears as though Romero was clearly impressed by his central defensive partner’s performance in that match.

Taking to his Instagram story on Friday (11 April), the Tottenham centre-back shared a picture from Van de Ven of the pair of them on the pitch during that match.

Romero then added the caption “What a player mickey mouse” while also including a loveheart and “TOP” emoji.

Tottenham getting players back at the perfect moment

Football Insider Verdict

With the Europa League coming to its final stages, we are now at the point of the season where Postecoglou‘s future is set to be decided.

Consequently, the fact the likes of Van de Ven are now returning to action for Tottenham seems to have come at the perfect time for their manager.

If they are to win this all-important trophy, they are going to need their very best players performing at the top level against some tricky opponents.

Van de Ven is undoubtedly one of those, and he will add a great deal more stability and security to their backline, especially with his pace.

Given how key the Europa League now is and the importance of keeping him fit, it may arguably be surprising if the Dutchman features for Tottenham against Wolves in the Premier League this weekend.
