Cristian Romero is now ‘finished’ at Tottenham – ‘he will move on’

Cristian Romero is edging closer to a move away from Tottenham at the end of the season amid interest from the likes of Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old has made headline recently with public outbursts against the club, before his red card against Man United added to Spurs‘ concerns about his position.

Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Romero has already damaged his relationships behind the scenes with his public comments.

As a result, Spurs are prepared to move him on at the end of the season, while the defender is believed to be keen on a move away from North London.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 11 February that Romero could push to leave Tottenham, although he remains on a long-term contract there.

Cristian Romero could quit Tottenham after public outburst

Brown told Football Insider on 9 February that Tottenham plan to move Romero on in the summer if he continues to cause issues for them publicly.

Both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid showed an interest in the centre-back last summer, and should that interest be reignited, he could be allowed to leave.

I’m not sure Romero sees his future at Tottenham,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He’s burnt a lot of bridges there already with these comments, those are not the actions of a player who wants to be at the club long-term.

“Calling out the decision-making, transfer team, all of that sort of thing isn’t going to go down well at all so it might be something they’re open to as well.

In any other walk of life, if you criticise your bosses in public, chances are they’re going to get rid of you.

There was interest from Madrid in the summer, if they come back in for him then it will give them an excuse and I expect they will let him go.

“That’s something Romero will be interested in as well, and if he’s given the opportunity, I think he will move on because of his recent actions.”

Tottenham make new manager plan after Igor Tudor arrives

Romero’s future is not the only ongoing issue at Spurs that will be decided in the summer, after the club opted to appoint an interim boss until the end of the season.

Igor Tudor has been installed on a short-term basis to steer them away from the relegation zone, but plans are still being put in place for the end of the season.

Football Insider revealed on 15 February that Roberto De Zerbi is in contention for Tottenham, with his Premier League experience making him a top candidate.

He left Marseille earlier this month following their elimination from the Champions League, but forged an impressive record with the Ligue 1 side.

While the Italian is not the only name on Tottenham’s shortlist as things stand, he remains highly thought of after his progress at Brighton and Marseille.
