Cristian Romero opens door to Tottenham transfer – sources

Tottenham star Cristian Romero is desperate to play at the highest level possible amid links to Spanish giants Real Madrid, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (16 September) that Spurs want to tie Romero down to a new contract with his current deal set to expire in 2027.

Reports have suggested that Real Madrid are watching Romero closely as they target a blockbuster new centre-back signing.

Sources say the 26-year-old’s willingness to sign a new Tottenham contract will hinge on their ambition, opening the door to a swoop from Los Blancos.

The World Cup winner wants to play regularly at the highest level and compete for trophies at the top end of the game – but Spurs will only play Europa League football this season.

It is believed he is therefore not willing to rule out a move to La Liga with Real in the future.

Meanwhile, Tottenham would demand a huge fee if they are to part with one of their star men.
