Cristian Romero responds to Kevin Danso’s message after he’s omitted from Tottenham team

Cristian Romero and Kevin Danso helped Tottenham maintain their second consecutive clean sheet as they beat Villarreal 1-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

After thrashing London rivals West Ham United 3-0 on Sunday, 13 September, Spurs beat Villarreal on 16 September.

Thomas Frank’s men were somewhat fortuitous, as their winning goal came from Luiz Junior’s own goal.

However, Tottenham’s vital win in the Champions League further exemplified the strong start Frank has made in the dugout.

Kevin Danso shares his delight as Tottenham secure Champions League win

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, football finance expert Stefan Borson said that Tottenham’s owners could increase Frank’s budget by £100million.

Such a development would help the former Brentford boss re-establish Spurs as a powerhouse in the Premier League, after they finished just 17th last season.

Meanwhile, taking to Instagram on 16 September, Danso wrote: “UCL nights. Only forward COYS.”

Fellow centre-back Romero commented: “Si ocho.”

Kevin Danso should earn more minutes in upcoming games

Spurs have performed well defensively since Frank has taken the managerial reins, conceding just one goal in four Premier League fixtures, which came in last month’s defeat to Bournemouth.

Spurs face Brighton next

Danso faces a tough task in displacing fellow centre-backs Romero and Micky van de Ven from Tottenham’s starting lineup.

The 26-year-old’s last start for Spurs came in their UEFA Super Cup defeat to Champions League holders PSG, which arrived following a penalty shootout.

He has featured as a substitute in both of the North London side’s last two games, replacing Lucas Bergvall in second-half stoppage time against Villarreal to help his side maintain their clean sheet.

However, now that Tottenham’s European campaign is underway, and they also face Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, 24 September, Frank appears set to rotate his squad, which should help Danso earn more minutes.

Meanwhile, Spurs will earn their fourth Premier League win of the season if they beat Brighton on the South Coast on Saturday, 20 September.

The Seagulls are vying to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth last time out.

Elsewhere, Frank has been tipped to continue improving Bergvall in a Tottenham News exclusive.
