Cristiano Ronaldo deleted post haunts Angus Gunn after Scotland clash

Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn tweeted that Cristiano was #notwhathewas 13 years before the legendary forward scored the winner in Portugal’s 2-1 over Scotland on Sunday.

Ex-Man United midfielder Scott McTominay gave Gunn, 28, and Scotland hope after opening the scoring with a header just seven minutes.

Bruno Fernandes then equalised just after half-time before leaving a message for McTominay on social media, warning him about scoring against Portugal on his birthday.

Ronaldo then popped up in the 88th minute to slot home past Gunn and secure the win for Portugal with his 901st competitive goal.

Scotland are now without a victory since their 2-0 friendly win over Gibraltar back in June.

Cristiano Ronaldo tweet comes back to bite Scotland star Angus Gunn

Gunn is currently plying his trade at Championship side Norwich City, making 90 appearances between the sticks since joining from Southampton back in 2021.

39-year-old Ronaldo may no longer be playing at the highest level but he’s still banging them in for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr at an astonishing rate with 68 goals in 74 games.

Since this tweet, Ronaldo has managed to win four Ballon d’Ors, four Champions League titles with Real Madrid, and tasted international success with Portugal at Euro 2016.

Gunn will no doubt be hoping he can redeem himself on Tuesday as Scotland prepare to face Croatia in their final game of the international break.
