Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘speaking to Man United star’ to lure him to Saudi club – pundit
Man United legend wants his former teammate to join him at Al-Nassr in sensational move after Harry Maguire twist
Raphael Varane is “speaking regularly to Cristiano Ronaldo’ and will depart Man United at the end of the season once his contract expires.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham United and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie claimed he expects the defender to depart Old Trafford, but was baffled that he has not earned more minutes this season.
As revealed by Football Insider (5 February), Varane has held clear-the-air talks with Man United boss Erik ten Hag following their backroom rift.
Their tense relationship has been amended, but the World Cup winner was unhappy with his lack of game time and the boss’ decision to select the likes of Jonny Evans over him.
McAvennie has urged the club to let Varane, who has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, depart to begin a clearout of the “toxic” players at the club.
“I definitely expect him to leave at the end of the season,” he told Football Insider. “I heard that he’s been offered to Saudi Arabia as well to go to the same team as Ronaldo, Al-Nassr.
“No doubt he’ll be speaking to Ronaldo, but he’s gone.
“For some reason, ten Hag isn’t playing him.
“He’s a wonderful talent, but he’s not getting enough minutes.
“They’re back to playing Jonny Evans which I don’t understand.
“He’s playing Harry Maguire too – I’d take Varane all day long.
“I can see Harry training, getting his head down and not making a fuss about anything – he looks like that kind of guy.
“Maybe Varane’s sulking, I don’t know.

“He’s a superstar player, so I’m sure he doesn’t like that he’s been dropped.
“But the environment at Man United has been toxic for a while, so I hope they clear it out.”
