‘Crystal Palace are under attack’ – Liverpool and Arsenal ‘making moves’ for star players

Crystal Palace have been tipped for a flurry of last-minute transfer activity at the end of the transfer window.

It has been a difficult summer for the Eagles, after they were demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League due to issues around multi-club ownership.

The south London club have done very little in the transfer market, adding just two signings so far.

Palace added Borna Sosa from Ajax for around £3million, as well as bringing in goalkeeper Walter Benitez on a free, but that is where their business has stopped.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that there will be a lot of activity in the latter stages of the window.

‘Palace doing all they can to keep Guehi and Eze’

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Crystal Palace are doing all they can to hang onto Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Guehi, while Eze has caught the attention of both Arsenal and Tottenham.

Wyness added that Oliver Glasner needs some new additions before the end of the window, so the club can’t just focus on keeping their current crop.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think the Uefa situation is completely separate. In terms of revenue, it’s going to be pretty similar if they go pretty far in the Conference League as opposed to a shorter run in the Europa League.

“However, it’s certainly taken up time in terms of the effort and energy being put into those sorts of things. Plus, they’re also under attack. Arsenal are after Eze and with Marc Guehi, Liverpool are still interested. So they’re doing all they can to keep those players there, with Arsenal and Liverpool making moves.

“Glasner does need some new troops and something has to break. Now it seems that Palace are going to find themselves moving into that sort of last-minute market. So we’ll see how that plays out for them.

“I have a bit of sympathy for Palac. You win an FA Cup and all it’s done is bring problems for them. So let’s just wait and see, but I think it’s going to be a lot of last-minute activity for Palace.”

‘Crystal Palace make Marc Guehi decison’

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are reportedly planning to accept an offer for Guehi before the transfer window closes rather than lose him for free next summer.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the 25-year-old will be allowed to leave if an acceptable offer arrives.

While Oliver Glasner remains keen to keep hold of his captain, there is a belief that his sale for around £40m would allow Palace to spend in the closing stages of the window.

Brown told Football Insider on 4 August that Liverpool are preparing a new offer for Guehi, who has his heart set on a move to Anfield.
