‘Crystal Palace ban decision incoming after John Textor mayhem’
Crystal Palace chiefs have this week held a desperate meeting with Uefa in a bid to see them admitted into next season’s Europa League.
Uefa’s rules prevent individuals from being involved with more than one club in the same competition to avoid a conflict of interest.
John Textor, minority shareholder at Palace, owns French club Lyon – who have qualified for the Europa League alongside the Eagles – who won the FA Cup.
Textor, Steve Parish, Josh Harris and David Blitzer met with Uefa but a decision was not reached.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on which way the outcome will go for Crystal Palace.

Textor’s exclusion will play well for Crystal Palace, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he expects Palace to proceed into their first-ever European campaign without too much trouble.
Textor invested £90million into the club in 2021 but has been vocal about his lack of control over footballing matters – and has insisted he wants to sell his shares to take over at another English side.
Wyness insisted the American’s lack of control over football decisions will go in Palace’s favour.
Position | Team | Played | Points | GD |
10 | Brentford | 38 | 56 | 9 |
11 | Fulham | 38 | 54 | 0 |
12 | Crystal Palace | 38 | 53 | 0 |
13 | Everton | 38 | 48 | -2 |
14 | West Ham | 38 | 43 | -16 |
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “John Textor is causing mayhem wherever he seems to be.
“The club are very bullish, because of the way the shareholder agreement is set up, that Steve Parish is in charge of the team day-to-day – not Textor.
“Textor has been publicly vocal that he’s been cut out of the team decisions, which will go in Palace’s favour.
“A lot will depend on what paperwork they can show Uefa.
“The other good thing is that there has been very little exchange of players between Lyon and Palace.
“I’d expect Palace to be cleared, without seeing the paperwork. Unless there is something which gives Textor influence in the shareholder agreement.
“I don’t expect them to be affected by this.”

Crystal Palace sensation holds exit talks
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (3 June) that Jesse Derry’s representatives have arrived in Germany to hold talks with a Champions League club over a potential move from Crystal Palace.
His contract with Crystal Palace expires at the end of June and there would be minimal compensation due if he moves abroad.
Derry, 17, was recently called up to England’s Under-19s squad for the summer’s European Championships.
