Crystal Palace face new ‘problem’ after John Textor reveal – Stefan Borson

Crystal Palace could be faced with a problem if John Textor’s Eagle Football Holdings is unable to pump any money into the club.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that could lead to the American businessman’s position being diluted at Selhurst Park.

Eagle Football, which is spearheaded by Textor, is now 16 weeks overdue in providing its accounts for the latest financial year.

The company owns a 45 per cent share in Palace as well majority stakes in French club Lyon, Brazilian first division outfit Botafogo and Belgian side RWD Molenbeek.

Borson revealed any financial issues Eagle is facing could cause an issue for the Premier League side if they need to raise any cash in the near future.

“I don’t think it’s hugely problematic for Crystal Palace,” Borson told Football Insider.

“Ultimately, Eagle are a 45 per cent shareholder. Clearly, it’s not good if a 45 per cent shareholder is in some kind of financial distress.

“That might be a bit strong to call it distress at this point, but they are certainly heading in that direction.

“They are paying for very expensive debt and they keep talking about wanting to bring in some additional capital via a US listing, but they haven’t yet been able to execute on that plan.

“I would put it down as more of one to watch as opposed to a problem for Crystal Palace at this point.

“It would become more of a problem for Crystal Palace if they needed to raise some capital like Chelsea have recently.

“If they needed some cash and they were asking everybody to put their hand in their pocket around the table, and their 45 per cent shareholder can’t stand their part of that cash, then that could give them a problem.

“But ultimately, it probably would just end up with a dilution over Eagle’s position at Crystal Palace.

“It may be more of an issue for Eagle than it would be for Crystal Palace, but it’s just one to watch at the moment.”
