Crystal Palace facing fixture nightmare after Carabao Cup draw

Oliver Glasner’s small squad will be put to the test in December, when Crystal Palace face a scheduling nightmare.

Crystal Palace beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield to progress comfortably to the next round of the Carabao Cup.

The Eagles will travel to Arsenal, whom Palace lost 1-0 to last time out in the Premier League, after the Gunners beat Brighton at Emirates Stadium.

Victory against Liverpool ended a four game winless streak, which backed up Glasner’s decision to play a near full strength team.

European commitments impact Carabao Cup scheduling

The next round of the Carabao Cup is scheduled to be played on the week commencing December 15th.

Palace host Man City on December 14th, meaning that the match normally would be scheduled for the next Wednesday.

However, Palace are already scheduled to face KuPS in the Europa Conference League on December 18th.

The week previously is also unavailable due to European commitments for both Palace and Arsenal, so it remains to be seen where the fixture will be able to be accomodated.

Glasner was frustrated at Crystal Palace’s summer transfer window, and game management of players will now be crucial to get through a potentially horror schedule unscathed.

When could the Crystal Palace vs Arsenal tie take place?

The first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals are scheduled to commence on the week beginning January 12th.

Due to Premier League and FA Cup fixtures, there looks to be no place where the match can be fitted into in either late December or early January.

Palace’s Premier League fixture against Man City may have to be postponed to ensure the tie is played before the new year.
