Crystal Palace fans will howl at what Clinton Morrison said about Patrick Vieira amid former boss’ latest exit

Clinton Morrison might be regretting his comments years after Patrick Vieira’s departure as Crystal Palace manager.

The Arsenal legend was replaced by Roy Hodgson in March 2023, but after just 11 months in charge, the Eagles finally landed upon their perfect choice – Oliver Glasner.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Glasner is unlikely to want to stay at Palace, with multiple European giants interested in his signature due to the job he has done at Selhurst Park since his arrival.

Football Insider understands that Marc Guehi’s exit will not affect Glasner’s future, but that has not stopped fans from worrying.

All of the success under his leadership might never have happened, though, had the Eagles not decided to part ways with Vieira, who is experiencing a much tougher time than his former club.

Former Crystal Palace boss loses yet another job in the dugout

The 49-year-old was hired by Strasbourg over in Ligue 1 following his exit from the Premier League, but after just over a year in France, he was without a job once again.

He then found himself in Italy with Genoa, but with the Italian side sitting bottom of Serie A after nine matches and zero wins, the decision has been made for Vieira to step down once again.

Genoa finished 13th in Serie A last season, but with a win rate of 27 per cent, both parties agreed that the manager’s departure was the best decision for everyone, bringing an end to yet another on his tenures.

Had Palace stuck with the former midfielder two years ago, the club may never have lifted both the FA Cup and Community Shield – two trophies that will live long in the memory of the supporters.

That is exactly why Morrison might be regretting his words now.

Crystal Palace are unlikely to regret parting ways with Patrick Vieira

Speaking back in 2023 [Sky Sports], Morrison said: “For me, it’s not the right call – I don’t think he should have been sacked. I know the run they have been on is terrible – without a win since the New Year.

“But I speak to a lot of people at Palace, around the place, there has been a lot of togetherness and that’s down to Patrick. I know it’s a results-based injury, but the run of games they have had is ridiculous.

“I would have stuck with him. I don’t know which other manager can come in and turn it around.”

If the Sky Sports pundit could go back in time and stop himself from saying those words, he probably would. Hindsight is a beatiful, but not one that can be used one live television.
