‘Crystal Palace figures fear Oliver Glasner exit after Red Bull talks’

Crystal Palace are concerned after RB Leipzig stepped up their pursuit of Oliver Glasner ahead of the season’s end.

Having joined the club in February 2024, the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss has rejuvenated the Eagles and led them to their first FA Cup final since 2016.

Glasner’s time in charge has led to players like Man United target Jean-Philippe Mateta and Arsenal target Eberechi Eze blossoming into some of the Premier League’s best.

However, the good results and strong tactical identity the Austrian has brought to Selhurst Park have led to other clubs becoming interested in the 50-year-old.

According to talkSPORT, there are now fears among those at Palace that Glasner may be on his way out of South London this summer, with talks having been held with Leipzig.

Oliver Glasner’s representatives hold talks after Jurgen Klopp identifies ‘top target’

According to the report, RB Leipzig have “intensified” their quest to lure Glasner away from Crystal Palace.

Sources revealed that club staff fear Glasner will jump ship at the end of the season to join the German side.

Talks between Leipzig and Glasner’s representatives have taken place after the Austrian was identified by Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer Jurgen Klopp as a “top target”.

The Eagles want to sign the Austrian to a contact extension, but Leipzig are just two points off a Champions League place and should they qualify, that would be something Palace cannot offer their manager.

Glasner is reportedly likely to seek assurance from the Eagles’ owner Steve Parish that he will be backed in the transfer market if he stays, having led the club to only their third FA Cup final ever.

Oliver Glasner fearing another summer of losing top players at Crystal Palace

Football Insider Verdict

If rumours of Glasner potentially being on his way out of Palace tell us anything, it is that Michael Olise’s departure to Bayern Munich continues to weigh heavily on the 50-year-old.

The French winger is quickly establishing himself as one of the world’s premier attacking talents, but his loss had a major impact on Palace this season.

The reason Glasner’s side are not competing for European qualification in the Premier League this season is due to them failing to adjust to the loss of Olise for much of the beginning of the season.

Now, with Marc Guehi near-certain to leave Crystal Palace, and potentially Adam Wharton, Mateta, and Eze heading for the exit as well, the Austrian will have to deal with more exits this summer, as he did last.

As a consequence, Glasner seems keen to move to a side capable of keeping their stars for slightly longer, a bigger fish, and that is something that Leipzig can offer.
