Crystal Palace loanee Ben Chilwell shares ‘next chapter’ message as exit confirmed

Crystal Palace’s on-loan defender Ben Chilwell shared a message on social media after the 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

Chilwell was shunned from the Chelsea squad upon Enzo Maresca’s arrival at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Whilst there was no room for the England international under the Italian, Chilwell enjoyed a fine start to life with Crystal Palace after joining on loan in January.

However, the good form of Tyrick Mitchell has limited the 28-year-old to just six Premier League appearances during his time at Selhurst Park.

Ben Chilwell shares touching message with Jamie Vardy after announcement

Following Jamie Vardy’s announcement that he will leave Leicester this summer, Chilwell posted a video of the pair to his Instagram story, captioned: “So many good times together! Good luck with your next chapter big bro”.

The duo played together for the Foxes from 2015 to 2020, before the left-back departed the King Power for West London.

Ben Chilwell forced to find another home with permanent Crystal Palace stay unlikely

Football Insider Verdict

Having suffered yet more injury setbacks during his time at Selhurst Park, it seems improbable that Palace will be too eager to make Chilwell’s stay a permanent one this summer.

Whilst Mitchell is out of contract and could well move on from his boyhood club, the Eagles will most likely want to find a player without the fitness problems of the 28-year-old.

There is no doubt about Chilwell’s ability as a player and his 21 England caps are a testament to that, but the 28-year-old has only played 49 Premier League games in the past four seasons combined.

With just a year remaining on his current deal with Chelsea, the defender and club may look to cancel the deal altogether in the summer, giving him a chance to find a new home and fresh start.

West Ham were linked with a move for Chilwell before he joined Oliver Glasner‘s side in January and given the Hammers’ large expenditure on transfers last summer, a cheap or even free transfer for the left-back may be very appealing for ex-Chelsea boss Graham Potter.
