Crystal Palace make Daniel Munoz transfer plan as Chelsea plot January swoop

Daniel Munoz has been one of the most impressive players for Crystal Palace over the last 18 months and has played a major role in their success.

Oliver Glasner’s side drew 0-0 with Brighton last time out, and while Munoz struggled to impress against the Seagulls, his importance to Palace cannot be overstated.

The wing-back has featured in all 19 of the Eagles’ games so far this season, with his relentless engine and attacking influence making him almost irreplaceable.

In that time, he has scored two goals and provided two assists, while his energy and defensive attitude have also been key attributes of his game.

However, those performances under Glasner could spark issues for the Eagles, with Barcelona and Chelsea now believed to be interested in a January move.

Chelsea and Barcelona dealt blow in pursuit of Daniel Munoz

Football Insider revealed on 11 November that Crystal Palace are reluctant to sell Munoz and will demand well over the reported £25million for his services.

The Eagles have no plans to lose any of their star players mid-way through the season, with the right-wing-back seen as a crucial part of their ambitions.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that any interest will be rebuffed by Palace in January.

It’s no surprise these clubs are looking at Munoz,” he told Football Insider.

“The way he’s played for Palace over a long period of time, that’s always a problem sides like that will have, because bigger clubs are always looking at those players.

“From Palace’s point of view, they’ve got no plans to let him go any time soon.

“You can see how important he is to the way they play, he’s been hugely important to them, so whether it’s Chelsea or Barcelona or whoever, they won’t want to let him go.

“Especially not in the middle of the season, because then the questions becomes, who are they going to bring in to replace him?

“So no, I wouldn’t expect anything to happen in January. Palace aren’t going to entertain any offers for him because he is that important.”

The Colombia international signed a new deal at Selhurst Park in April to extend his deal until 2028, while the club also hold an option to extend, giving them full power.

Crystal Palace plan to back Oliver Glasner in January

Brown told Football Insider on 11 November that Crystal Palace are planning to back Glasner when the mid-season window opens to add depth to his squad.

The Eagles looked leggy in the second half, with their busy European and domestic schedules seemingly beginning to catch up with the players.

Marc Guehi was ruled out of the Brighton clash with bruising on his ankle, picked up against AZ Alkmaar, while Maxence Lacroix admitted he was tired but happy to play.

As a result, Glasner has spoken out confessing he would like to add more players to his squad in January to enable further rotation and allow him to rest key players.

Palace are now keen to make up for their difficult summer by backing the manager with new players to bolster his squad in the mid-season window.
