Crystal Palace: Marcelino becomes new betting favourite to replace Oliver Glasner
Crystal Palace‘s managerial situation has taken a new twist as Villarreal boss Marcelino emerges as the new bookmakers’ favourite to succeed Oliver Glasner.
Glasner is set to leave Crystal Palace at the end of this season as he nears the latter stages of his existing contract.
The 51-year-old has become the Eagles’ most successful manager ever over the last 12 months, but their poor form throughout this term has raised doubts around his immediate future.
Steve Parish has decided against sacking Glasner before he officially departs in the summer, though, but the search is already underway for his successor.
Thomas Frank was the previous frontrunner to land the role, but one major UK bookmaker has now installed Marcelino as the favourite to be Palace’s next permanent boss, at odds of 2/1.
Everything you need to know about Marcelino
Marcelino is currently managing Villarreal, but is approaching the end of his contract with the club this summer after two-and-a-half years in charge.
They are sitting third in La Liga as it stands, in the midst of a strong campaign, after previously finishing eighth and fifth in the top flight under his watch.

The 63-year-old has an extensive managerial history in Spain, with previous spells in charge of Sevilla, Valencia and Athletic Club, as well as a short time at French giants Marseille.
Recent reports have stated that a decision to renew his contract will not be taken until the Yellow Submarine are sure of Champions League qualification.
Marcelino’s side often plays a variation of a 4-4-2 formation, with particular focus on a rigid defensive structure, aggression and quick attacking transitions.
Who else is in contention to take over at Palace?
Sources have exclusively told Football Insider that Palace are set to approach Sean Dyche to be their next manager after Glasner, and he is the current fourth-favourite to take the role at odds of 8/1.
Former Spurs and Brentford boss Frank is the second-favourite with a top UK bookmaker, at 4/1 odds, while Andoni Iraola has been linked and comes in next at odds of 6/1.
Other possible contenders include Robbie Keane (10/1), Brian Barry-Murphy (16/1), Roberto Martinez (16/1) and Christian Ilzer (16/1).
