Crystal Palace receive boost in Jean-Philippe Mateta talks after confirmed development
Jean-Philippe Mateta has established himself as a crucial player for Crystal Palace and plans are being made to keep him at the club.
Since the arrival of Oliver Glasner in 2024, Mateta has scored 34 goals and provided five assists in 69 appearances and established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

Tottenham had expressed an interest in Mateta during the summer transfer window, but the Eagles have no plans to let their striker leave the club any time soon.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that Crystal Palace want to extend Mateta’s contract “urgently” to tie down his future at Selhurst Park.

Jean-Philippe Mateta receives his first France senior call-up
International recognition has been beckoning for Mateta since his displays for the France Olympic team in 2024 when he was included in Thierry Henry‘s squad as an over-23 player.
Didier Deschamps has famously his long-serving players including Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram, who has scored just two goals in 31 games for his country.
Thuram’s recent hamstring injury, suffered during Inter’s 3-0 win against Slavia Prague, has opened the door for Mateta who has now been handed his first senior call-up.
This recognition from Deschamps has put an end to suggestions that Mateta may have to leave Crystal Palace and play at a higher level to earn a senior call-up.
That issue was shown previously when Michael Olise, before having played his first game for Bayern Munich, was handed a debut senior call-up after leaving Palace.
Deschamps’ latest call will now see Olise and Mateta link up once more, having forged a formidable partnership alongside Eberechi Eze during the 2023-24 season.
Crystal Palace boosted in Mateta contract talks
A number of other Palace stars have proved they can receive international recognition at the top level while developing their game with the Eagles.
Eze became an England regular while at Palace, alongside Marc Guehi, who has cemented his position in the defence, while Dean Henderson, Daniel Munoz, Daichi Kamada and Ismaila Sarr are also regularly involved with their respective national teams.

Brown told Football Insider in May that Mateta is happy at Crystal Palace despite the intense speculation surrounding his future at Selhurst Park.
There is no doubt receiving international recognition will add to the striker’s happiness, having proved that he can impress Deschamps while playing under Glasner.
That will come as a huge boost to Glasner, and to Crystal Palace in their attempts to agree Mateta’s contract and extend his stay beyond the current 2027 expiry date.
