Crystal Palace sack decision: Keith Wyness drops Oliver Glasner verdict

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Crystal Palace will be forced to make a decision on Oliver Glasner’s future if they are still struggling at Christmas.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed chairman Steve Parish will “prefer to back” the 50-year-old at this time despite their tough start to the 2024-25 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (11 November) that Crystal Palace chiefs are still behind Glasner with the club sitting inside the relegation zone after 11 games.

The Eagles have won just once in the top flight this term – a 1-0 victory against Tottenham in October – and have scored just eight Premier League goals.

Glasner succeeded Roy Hodgson at Palace in February and won seven of his 13 matches in charge in the 2023-24 campaign.

They face Aston Villa, Newcastle, Ipswich, Man City, Brighton and Arsenal before Christmas in what are likely to be make-or-break games in the Austrian’s reign.

Crystal Palace to make Glasner sack decision at Christmas, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s a tricky one.

“The fans haven’t turned on him yet. They’re disappointed with results, but seeing signs that there could be hope.

“Personally, I think they are right to stick with him.

“But around Christmas, they’re going to have to make the decision on what will happen going forward.

“It’s going to be tricky. They’re definitely falling into that group of clubs who are in danger.

“The surprise, of course, has been Forest and how they’ve flown right up the table.

“There are always one surprise club who come down, and it’s looking like Palace will have to do something to avoid that.

“Looking at their fixtures, Glasner does have the chance to get some points on the board.

Steve Parish watching Crystal Palace

“It’s still very tight, plenty of time to go forward – but they’ll be keeping a close eye.

“I think Parish will prefer to back him if possible. Let’s see how it goes.”
