Crystal Palace ‘sign Ben Chilwell right this second’ – fans thrilled

Crystal Palace earned a place in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday (1 March) in a thrilling game against Millwall.

The game was packed with drama from the eighth minute when Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts was sent off for a horror tackle on Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The Palace forward had to be stretchered off after being caught in the face with Roberts’ boot, but fortunately Mateta has revealed he is okay.

A Japhet Tanganga own goal and finishes from Daniel Munoz and Eddie Nketiah secured the win for the Eagles regardless of Millwall’s efforts, taking Oliver Glasner’s men one step closer to Wembley.

Unfortunately, the game also featured more unsavoury moments as Palace loanee Ben Chilwell was subject to some vile abuse from the Millwall fans.

Former FIFA official Keith Hackett told Football Insider he hopes Palace “take that issue up” further.

Ben Chilwell has reminded people what he can do

Chilwell had been a mainstay in the Blues starting lineup since joining the club from Leicester City, playing a significant role in the team winning the Champions League.

However, he slipped down the pecking order and was part of a Chelsea ‘bomb squad’ under Enzo Maresca, who opted to only give the full-back 45 minutes worth of football all season.

Crystal Palace fans want to sign Ben Chilwell permanently

The England international has only played one full 90 minute so far for the Eagles, but the Palace faithful have been impressed with what they have seen.

They told the club to sign him “right this second” while others believe the club will be “begging” to sign the defender by the end of this campaign.

Football Insider reported that Chelsea will be looking to find a new home for Chilwell when his loan spell at Selhurst Park ends, therefore the opportunity could be there for Palace to buy him permanently.
