Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta responds as new transfer confirmed

Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta reacted excitedly to a brand-new transfer announcement this summer.

The 28-year-old is an incredibly key figure at Selhurst Park, having notched 36 goals and nine assists across the last two seasons, but his form did tail off after his massive collision against Millwall.

Several clubs in the Premier League have taken notice of the striker’s abilities, though Football Insider understands that Liverpool will not pursue a move for Mateta following the signing of Hugo Ekitike.

Of course, the Reds are also after Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, handing Oliver Glasner’s side a much-needed boost in keeping their own star player, with less than half the window remaining.

Eberechi Eze, Adam Wharton, and Marc Guehi are all heavily linked with exits this summer, but it is Norwich City’s signing of the players’ former teammate, Jeffrey Schlupp, which caught the attention.

Taking to Instagram (24 July), the Norwich City account wrote: “We’re pleased to announce the signing of Jeffrey Schlupp on a one-year deal,” joining after a season-long loan with Celtic.

Excited by the news, Mateta reshared the news to his Instagram story, simply captioned with a starry-eyed emoji after the full-back ended his eight-year stay at Selhurst Park in February.

Football Insider verdict

Despite winning the FA Cup and qualifying for European competition, albeit being demoted to the Europa Conference League, the current situation surrounding Selhurst Park could not be more concerning.

The winning goal against Man City at Wembley Stadium came from Eze, who wants to join Arsenal this summer, Football Insider understands, with several other stars being linked with exits.

Glasner was also linked with a move to Europe due to his successful first few months in England, but the 50-year-old appears set to continue his journey with the Eagles for at least one more season.

While Mateta may no longer be an option, Football Insider understands that Liverpool are increasingly likely to sign Guehi as Ousmane Diomande closes in on a move from Sporting CP.

Losing several stars would be detrimental to Palace’s development on the pitch ahead of next season, especially with time running out to find replacements if any decide to leave over the coming weeks.

The surrounding drama with the Eagles being expelled from the Europa League certainly does nothing to help the situation, but Steve Parish and Co. will be battling UEFA until the season kicks off.
