Crystal Palace star must regret missed Arsenal transfer after latest frustrating blow

Oliver Glasner could have more frustrated Crystal Palace players on his hands after several missed opportunities during the summer transfer window.

Marc Guehi was close to joining Liverpool, completing his medical ahead of a move to Anfield, before the transfer fell through at the 11th hour due to the Eagles not being able to find a suitable replacement.

Palace did lose Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, though, with the likes of Yeremi Pino and Christantus Uche brought in to soften the blow of his big-money exit over the summer.

Plenty of other figures likely had chances to leave, too. Man United were hugely interested in Jean-Philippe Mateta. Adam Wharton was highly sought after as well.

One player may now regret his decision not to push for an exit during the winter transfer window, however.

Tyrick Mitchell has been a loyal servant to Crystal Palace since 2019.

Arsenal were interested in signing Tyrick Mitchell

Football Insider revealed in December that Palace would turn away any approaches for Tyrick Mitchell, who has become almost undroppable for the Eagles during his six years with the club.

Arsenal were one of the clubs keeping tabs on the full-back’s situation, with Palace concerned by the interest from Atletico Madrid and AC Milan over the last couple of windows.

That would have been his chance to play for a high-profile team, whether that be in the Premier League or in Europe, but Mitchell does not appear to be a player who makes a fuss about his future.

His continuous absence from the England national team has been raised several times, though, and many can’t help but feel it has something to do with his staying at Selhurst Park all these years.

Mitchell stays with Crystal Palace despite ongoing England snubs

The Three Lions’ biggest weakness in recent tournaments has been the left-back position. There is absolutely no question about that. Yet, he continues to be overlooked.

Mitchell is one of the most talented, underrated, rock-solid defenders in the Premier League and has been for the last few seasons, but even Thomas Tuchel is refusing to acknowledge him.

Instead of the 26-year-old being called up for the first time since 2022, Man City‘s Nico O’Reilly was chosen after just 30 first-team appearances across the last two seasons.

It makes no sense at all, but had Mitchell decided to push for a move to a top-six club, with the Gunners clearly interested, it might have changed the outlook on him. Could this be ‘big-six’ bias?
