Crystal Palace takeover: Stefan Borson drops John Textor claim after deal agreed

Crystal Palace fans shouldn’t get carried away a deal for John Textor’s shares is going to be completed despite an offer reportedly being accepted.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider Eagle Football Holdings hasn’t confirmed the agreement yet despite the company being listed on Euronext.

Textor had instructed merchant bank Raine Group to identify interested parties for his 45 per cent stake at Selhurst Park as he looked to secure an Everton takeover, but that deal fell through.

The American billionaire told Sky Sports on 12 September he was “into the final week or two of knowing who the buyer will be” for his Palace shares.

The Athletic reported on 6 January a group backed by individuals from the US and Saudi Arabia has signed an exclusivity agreement to buy Eagle’s stake in the club.

Elsewhere, global investment firm Sportsbank is looking to buy shares in Textor’s company.

Crystal Palace takeover hasn’t been confirmed by John Textor

“I take it all with a pinch of salt with Eagle Holdings and Textor,” Borson told Football Insider.

“No announcement was made by Eagle confirming exclusivity. Eagle are listed on Euronext and usually have to make announcements about price-sensitive information.

“They didn’t make any announcement confirming the sale, nor did they about the other exclusivity in respect of the 45 per cent Crystal Palace stake.

“I’m sure these parties are interested in doing these deals with Eagle. I’m sure Textor would quite like to sell a stake, I’m sure he would quite like to do the IPO in New York and would like to avoid Lyon getting relegated in Ligue 1.

“I’m sure he would like to do all the stuff that’s been spoken about, but we just have to see how it all pans out.

“If I was a Palace fan, I wouldn’t get carried away that this is going to happen.

“Although it’s not clear what Sportsbank are trying to do, I think they are looking to put money into Eagle, not buy the Palace stake.

“I think somebody else is trying to buy the Palace stake.”
