Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton matches superstar Harry Kane in surprise metric

Adam Wharton might be even more impressive than many Crystal Palace supporters have realised this season.

Results have been incredible at Selhurst Park, and because of that, Mick Brown told Football Insider that Oliver Glasner is unlikely to want to stay at Palace amid interest from Premier League giants.

The Eagles are currently sixth in the Premier League table, but after their 2-1 loss to Everton, Glasner’s team missed out on the chance of a much higher standing before heading into the international break.

During the game, Wharton picked up a very unfair booking, which was his first of the Premier League campaign, but it is his attacking stats that are attracting the most attention this season.

It became obvious quite quickly just how impressive the 21-year-old is, catching the eye of multiple European giants since arriving from Blackburn Rovers in February 2024.

He has already made 53 first-team appearances, which would be higher had he not suffered from injuries at Selhurst Park, and has three assists to his name in that time.

This season, Wharton has taken his creativity to a whole new level, and that shows by Squawka’s latest reveal when it comes to the most big chances created in Europe’s top five leagues.

Harry Kane has been linked with a Tottenham return, and it is he who has five big chances created alongside Wharton, with only five players ahead of them in Europe’s top five leagues.

No other player in the Premier League ranks above the Palace star.

Which teams are interested in signing Wharton?

Man United had been heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old during the summer transfer window, with Liverpool, Tottenham, and Real Madrid all reportedly keeping tabs on the player.

However, with the player’s contract expiring in the summer of 2029, and Glasner already losing a couple of key players, it could take quite a big offer to prize him away from Selhurst Park.

Marc Guehi is already expected to depart, either in January or at the end of his contract next summer, and replacing him will already be an incredibly difficult challenge for the Eagles.
