Crystal Palace’s top five most expensive signings ranked after Brennan Johnson price tag reveal
Brennan Johnson is set to become Crystal Palace’s new club-record signing after a £35million fee was agreed for him to join from Tottenham in the January window.
Johnson has struggled under Thomas Frank at Tottenham this season, and so has looked destined to leave the club in the new year in search of more game time.
Palace have been backed to sign Johnson after registering their interest in his services, and new reports have revealed that they have now agreed a £35m fee with Spurs for his signature [Sky Sports].
Personal terms are yet to be agreed with Bournemouth also in the hunt, but the Wales winger could soon become the Eagles’ record arrival when the window opens this week.
With a big-money move potentially on the horizon, Football Insider have ranked each of Palace’s top five most expensive signings ever by the impact they have had, or are having on the club.

5. Yeremy Pino – £26m
Palace signed Pino from Villarreal in the summer window, and he sits bottom of this list as a result of the lack of time he has had to make an impact so far.
He has looked exciting going forward in Oliver Glasner‘s side, but needs to start producing more attacking output with just the one Premier League goal from 16 appearances so far.
4. Mamadou Sakho – £26m
Sakho’s most impressive spell in his four-and-a-half years at Selhurst Park actually came when he was on loan from Liverpool in the second half of the 2016-17 season.
The French centre-back never really had the same impact after his move became permanent ahead of 2017-18, as he struggled with injuries and made 67 appearances across the next four seasons while they lingered around mid-table.
3. Eddie Nketiah – £30m
Nketiah just creeps in ahead of Sakho in this list due to his role in Palace’s maiden major triumph last season, as he scored twice in five FA Cup appearances.
The big-money signing from Arsenal has not exactly shone in South London over the last 18 months, but plays his role well and has shown some decent form in recent weeks with goals against Fulham and Shelbourne.

He is also much more likely to be sold on for some kind of transfer fee, while Sakho left Palace on a free transfer to join Montpellier in 2021.
2. Christian Benteke – £32m
Benteke never bettered the 17 goals he scored in his first season at Palace over the next five years, but he still gave their supporters some great memories.
The Belgian international bagged 37 times in 177 games across six years at the club, becoming a cult-hero at Selhurst Park for his ability to pop up in key moments with a goal.
He certainly deserves the second spot in this list, and could soon be Palace’s second-most expensive transfer if Johnson joins soon.
1. Marc Guehi – £20.5m
Guehi has the lowest price tag of all the players in this list, but he tops it with ease after leading Palace to the FA Cup as their on-field captain last season.

He has become one of the best centre-backs in the world and an England regular in his four years at the club, with 184 appearances up to now.
Guehi could leave Palace soon as he nears the end of his contract, but regardless of how he departs, he will surely go down as a legend in South London for the impact he has had.
