Curtis Jones development ruined by injury as Liverpool news confirmed - pundit

Paul Robinson has backed Curtis Jones to prove his worth to Liverpool after “a disjointed 18 months” on Merseyside.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 21-year-old’s new deal says a lot about how he is regarded by manager Jurgen Klopp.

On Thursday (17 November), Liverpool announced Jones had put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at the club.

The centre-midfielder has only been a bit-part player this season because of injury.

He has been limited to just seven appearances across all competitions, with only two of those starts.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the development and future of Jones at Anfield, Robinson said: “He has had a bit of a stop-start 18 months.

“The injuries have not helped, let’s be honest.

“The new contract says a lot about what the manager thinks of him. Jurgen Klopp trusts him. He has played him in big games from a young age. That tells me that Jones is a player Klopp likes an awful lot.

“The experiences Jones has had at a young age will only stand to benefit him.

“It has been a disjointed 18 months or so for him but I have no doubt about his talent. He is a top player.

“I think he will continue to develop. We have not seen the best Curtis Jones yet.”
