Cyriel Dessers has transformed Rangers career in ‘huge’ twist

Cyriel Dessers has transformed his career at Rangers following his incredible run of form.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke claimed that Dessers, 29, will be a “huge” member of Philippe Clement’s squad as they hunt for a domestic treble.

The Nigeria international had been widely criticised in the opening stretch of his Ibrox career for his struggles in front of goal and frequent squandering of chances.

However, he has emerged as a prolific star of the rejuvenated Rangers side having notched 19 goals and eight assists across 48 games in all competitions.

Dessers will be ‘huge’ for Rangers in their charge for the double

His most recent noticeable contribution to the Gers was his brace against Hearts in their 2-0 Scottish Cup semi-final victory on Sunday (21 April) which secured his side’s spot in the final against Celtic next month.

In the league, he has managed nine goal contributions in the last 14 games – more than any other Rangers player in the same period.

Furthermore, O’Rourke noted that the Ibrox faithful have appreciated Dessers much more since striker Fabio Silva joined the club.

Silva, 21, moved to the Glasgow giants on a six-month loan spell from Premier League side Wolves and has struggled despite an encouraging opening few weeks.

With just four goals in 19 appearances in all competitions to his name in Scotland, the Portugal under-21 international has flattered to deceive.

Now, Rangers have depended on Dessers to provide a major portion of their goals and O’Rourke was adamant that he will continue to be the “main source of goals” for the Gers.

Rangers
