TalkSport hosts Alan Brazil has boldly claimed that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers would put Arsenal back on top in England if he was to replace Arsene Wenger at the Emirates.
The Mirror has reported that Rodgers is on a shortlist of candidates to potentially replace Wenger at the end of the season when his position as Gunners manager will come under review by the club’s board.
It was understood that the Frenchman still has another year left on his £8million-a-year deal in North London but is facing the biggest threat of the sack in his 22 years at the club.
Former Scotland international Brazil believes that the Celtic senior man would be a great choice for Arsenal and added that he may decide to quit Parkhead due to the mouth-watering gulf in finances between the London giants and the Scottish champions.
“Both are institutions, with worldwide fan bases and huge expectations,” Brazil said on the Sunday Post website.
“But there’s one way in which Arsenal dwarf the Hoops – financially.
“The money Brendan could spend as Gunners boss would be miles beyond what he has at Celtic Park.
“When opportunities like that come along, top managers jump at them.”
The ex-Manchester United striker added: “I know plenty of Arsenal fans – and former players!
“Some of them will scoff at the idea of Brendan Rodgers taking charge of their club.
“They still see him as damaged goods after his second season at Liverpool.
“Arsenal’s last managerial appointment was a left-field one.
“If they go that way again, I reckon Brendan could be the one that get them right back to the top.”
Football Insider verdict
Rodgers may have won all there is to win in Scotland in just one year, but his biggest achievement at Celtic Park was the unbeaten run that smashed a century old British record when they went 69 domestic games without defeat. Everyone expects Celtic to win titles but no one expected them to go so long without a defeat. This season has shown signs of the wheels coming off and back-to-back trebles are not looking as much a foregone conclusion as they were several months back. Arsenal are waiting until the end of the season but it does not seem likely that will try to appoint Rodgers and may go for a manager from Europe.
In other Celtic news, Brendan Rodgers has dropped a major hint that this 11-assist player could be sold.
