Dan Ashworth to Arsenal? Keith Wyness reacts after confirmed news
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he feels Dan Ashworth is unlikely to join Arsenal after leaving Man United this month.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – admitted the transfer guru does have a “personal relationship” with managing director Richard Garlick.
According to The Sun (9 December), Ashworth is being lined up by Arsenal after his confirmed exit from Man United.
The ex-England and Newcastle chief was appointed United’s first-ever sporting director just five months ago but has already been bombed out of the role.
Edu Gaspar left Arsenal to take a role in Evangelos Marinakis’ multi-club network last month and the Gunners are now scouring the market for replacements.
Arsenal could interview Ashworth after Man United exit, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Ashworth was close with Richard Garlick at West Brom.
“That’s the club where Ashworth really made his name. I was aware of him at that time.
“There is a personal relationship for him at Arsenal, and with Edu gone – there is a hole for him to fill.
“It’s up to Arsenal to interview him and find out if he’s the right guy.

“I don’t know if there’s any gardening leave with Man United or what his contractual situation is.
“It’s one the media have linked – but I tend to think that he won’t end up at Arsenal.”
