Dan Friedkin blunder? Expert reacts to Everton sack update

Everton fans should not be concerned about Dan Friedkin’s troubles at Roma as he prepares to take over on Merseyside.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the US billionaire “will have learned a lot of valuable football lessons” in Italy and his experience is a “positive” for the Toffees.

Friedkin is edging closer to taking control at Everton after agreeing a deal in September to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in the club.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (18 November) that manager Sean Dyche will face intense sack scrutiny over the Christmas period with a daunting run of fixtures lined up.

Friedkin has come under criticism in recent months at Roma, where he took over in 2020, for the sacking of two managers already in the 2024-25 campaign.

Claudio Ranieri has now been coaxed out of retirement to take over in the Italian capital.

Roma fans have protested Friedkin’s ownership this term after the chaos at Stadio Olimpico.

Friedkin’s Roma experiences will be a ‘positive’ for Everton, says Wyness

Borson told Football Insider: “I don’t think the Roma situation says anything about Friedkin’s judgement.

“What will be more concerning is how the two clubs fit into a multi-club organisation. Most of the groups have a very clear parent club and then a number of subsidiaries.

“I think the Friedkins will have learned a lot of valuable football lessons during their time at Roma.

“Most of the issues they’ve had are actually positive for Everton because it will teach the ownership group about how to deal with it.

“They had a very good start at Roma, it’s only recently that it has gone wrong.

Everton

“There’s no exact science in football. They’ve made a few missteps in terms of management and firing managers, but I don’t think Everton should be concerned.

“I see it as a positive.”
