Dan Friedkin to inject more Everton cash after new twist – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness believes prospective owner Dan Friedkin will inject more cash into the club to help complete the new stadium development.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed the stadium project is in good shape after recently visiting the site.

Everton started work on the development in 2021, with the club expected to make the move from Goodison Park ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Despite the new stadium being projected to cost around £500million, it is now expected to set the Merseysiders back more than £800million.

Speaking to Sky Sports on 14 August, CEO Colin Chong admitted the previous takeover uncertainty hasn’t impacted the stadium development and the club should now be able to “self-fund” the remainder of the project.

But The Liverpool Echo reported on 1 October prospective owners The Friedkin Group will be stepping in to provide Everton with the necessary funding to complete the development.

Dan Friedkin moving money around after Everton stadium reveal

Wyness has insisted that will just be Friedkin moving money from one pot to another.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think I understand that both Colin Chong and Everton were saying that there was enough money in place to finish the stadium.

“I think all that Friedkin’s doing is moving money from one pot to another pot and saying ‘There’s now more money going in longer term’, but I don’t think there are any issues.

“I think the stadium’s definitely in great shape.

“I went and saw it myself at the weekend for about the fourth time, it’s looking fantastic.

“I think the club is in good shape.

“The sooner we get this done and on to business the better, but still it’s going to take until at least the very earliest mid-November possibly into December.

“I think things are going well and I’ve got no concerns at the moment about this particular transaction.”
